Waste Connections has provided updated Single-Stream Recycling Guidelines for 2026, outlining what materials are accepted for recycling. These guidelines apply to all VHRS households and are available in both English and Spanish
Recycling Guidelines 2026.

Single-stream recycling means no sorting is required—all accepted recyclable materials may be placed together in your recycling bin.

✔️ Accepted Recycling Materials (Highlights)
Recyclable items must be empty, clean, and placed loose in the bin:
  • Paper and cardboard (flatten boxes)
  • Newspapers, magazines, mail, and paperboard
  • #1–7 plastic bottles, tubs, and screw-top jars (no lids)
  • Glass bottles and jars (no lids)
  • Aluminum and steel cans (do not crush)
  • Clean, balled aluminum foil (2” or larger)
  • Empty aerosol cans (no caps)

???? Common Contamination Issues (Very Important)
To avoid missed service, please do not place the following items in your recycling bin:

❌ Pizza boxes or food-soiled cardboard
❌ Unwashed food or beverage containers
❌ Plastic bags (including bags filled with recyclables)
❌ Plastic lids, caps, or tops
❌ Paper or cardboard take-out food containers
❌ Shredded paper
❌ Styrofoam®, waxed paper, or waxed cardboard

Important: If recyclables are placed inside a plastic bag, the entire bag will be treated as trash and will not be recycled.

⚠️ What Happens if a Bin Is Contaminated?
If Waste Connections identifies contaminated recyclables before dumping the bin, the container may be:
  • Left behind
  • Tagged as contaminated
  • Collected as trash the following week instead of recycling
  • This helps protect recycling equipment and ensures materials can be properly processed.
Proper Bin Use
  • Do not overfill or overstuff your recycling bin
  • All recyclables must fit inside the bin with the lid closed
  • Drivers are instructed not to collect items left outside the bin

Additional Resources
For a full list of acceptable and non-acceptable materials, including visual guides in English and Spanish, homeowners are encouraged to review the official Waste Connections Recycling Guidelines 2026

Metro District will replace the Castillo Way and Westridge Knolls Avenue (fence up to Laurenwood Way) starting January 5, 2026.

Metro District will notify any affected homeowners at least one week in advance when the fence replacement will begin.  Temporary construction-type fencing will be installed after the existing fence has been removed.  This fence is not designed for containment of children or pets.  Any additional fencing can be request by the homeowner but at your expense.

Before the fence can be replaced, Metro District asks that homeowners remove all landscape materials (rocks, mulch, trees, shrubs, etc.) within 12 inces of the district-owned fence.  These materials must be permanently removed by January 5, 2025

Starting December 9, 2025, Metro District staff will inspect your property to ensure landscape materials have been removed from the fence line and determine if the fence installation can begin.

If questions or for further explanations of fence rules and landscape violations, please visit www.highlandsranch.or/fence.

The Board is pleased to share that Westwind has created two new non-emergency work order forms within the Owner’s Portal. These forms are designed to make it easier for you to report issues and will also help Westwind track and manage requests more efficiently for the Board’s review.

The two new web-based forms are:
  • Landscaping Matters

These forms streamline submissions, reduce the chance of requests being missed, and provide you with an automatic confirmation once your request is submitted.

You can complete and submit the forms directly online. If you prefer, you may also download the form, fill it out by hand, and return it to Westwind by email with a photo, or by mailing it to their office.

Dear Community Members, the Board of Directors are pleased to announce that VHRS has developed a Trades/Vendors/Service Contractors Resource Listing for homeowners, which is now available. The listing is attached below.

This resource guide was created based on recommendations from community members to assist homeowners in finding reputable trades, vendors, and service contractors. Please note that VHRS does not endorse or guarantee the services of any listed providers. Homeowners are responsible for conducting their own due diligence before hiring any contractor.

If you have a trade, vendor, or service contractor you would like to recommend for inclusion in the listing, please contact Westwind Management to request an update. The revised list will be posted on the Subassociation's website as updates are made.

Effective January 1, 2025 Parking Enforcement begins.  Two citations will be given prior to towing.

Common Area Driveways:
Parking (or charging an electric vehicle) in these driveways is strictly prohibited.  These areas must remain clear for emergency vehicles.
Emergency Tows: Vehicles parked in these driveways may be towed immediately without notice.

Towing Costs: All expenses are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.'

Compliance Change effective 6/13/2025:
Pursuant to the Villages at Highlands Ranch Rules, vehicles parked in cul-de-sacs will be considered parked in emergency access lanes and are subject to immediate towing—regardless of the time of day.

This includes any vehicle not actively being loaded or unloaded. Please ensure that vendors working at your home also comply. Vendors should promptly unload tools or materials, move their vehicles to the street, and only return to the cul-de-sac when ready to reload at the conclusion of their work.

Guest Parking Redesignation
The Board has eliminated guest parking designations. These spaces are now available as additional community parking. The Board and Westwind will continue monitoring for unused or abandoned vehicles in off-street parking areas.

Off-Street Parking Rules
Off-street parking is not for long-term storage or abandoned vehicles.

Prohibited: Vehicles that are unused, abandoned, or have expired plates may not be stored in off-street parking.
Requirement: These vehicles must be parked on the street or in a garage.

Monitoring and Enforcement:
Rocky Mountain Monitoring will issue citations for vehicles parked in off-street areas for more than two weeks.
After two citations, a 48-hour notice will be given to move the vehicle. Failure to comply will result in towing.

Towing Costs: All expenses are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.

Thank you for your attention to these updated parking policies. Compliance is essential to maintaining a safe and accessible community for all residents.

Please be considerate and pickup your dog waste from the common areas (sidewalks, grass areas) instead of leaving it.

As part of our commitment to a well-kept and inviting neighborhood, VHRS has provided dog waste stations equipped with bags and receptacles for convenient disposal during your walks. We genuinely appreciate everyone’s efforts to utilize these stations responsibly and keep our community looking its best.
Please remember that these bags are offered as a thoughtful convenience, intended for those moments when your supply is momentarily overlooked—not as a full replacement for bringing your own. Excessive reliance on these complimentary bags could lead the Board to reconsider their continued availability.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us maintain a clean and pleasant environment for all.
