UPDATE EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2024:  Colorado Waste Connections is now requiring homeowners change their recycling bins/tubs from open containers to a 96 gallon closed containers with lid.  All trash and recycling must be in these bins or the trash and recycling will not be picked up.  Colorado Waste Connections is now using a one-man operated truck and will be used to lift the bins.  Colorado Connections is requiring our community to use the 96-gallon trash and recycle bins. Therefore, Westwind will be sending out e-mail blast and letters via regular mail regarding this requirement and will be requesting from you the number of bins you need as Colorado Waste Connections has agreed to provide the 96-gallon trash and recycle bins for free.  If you have a green 96-gallon trash bin  you then only need to request a recycle bin.  If you have a 96-gallon recycle bin, you do not need to order a new bin.

In addition, Colorado Waste Connections will no longer pick up any lawn/yard items including any  twigs/tree branch bundles.  These items must go into the trash can or you will need to call to set up a special pickup (or you can find out where you can take the twigs/branches to a county tree collection facility).  You will be charged a fee for the pickup.
Westwind will be sending out an e-mail blast with the Waste Connections will not pick any large items left out by the trash bins.  You must call to set up a special pickup or you can take your item(s) to any thrift store in the area.  You will be charged a fee for the pickup.

Please call Waste Connections customer service phone number is 800-457-1379.

If any large items are left in the street, the board is considering sending violation letters to everyone within the common area pod for pickup the large item.  This could result in fines to the homeowners in the cul-de-sac for not complying with the new trash requirements.

If you have any questions, please contact Westwind Management.

LARGE ITEM(S) PICKUP AND DONATION RESOURCES
Community members have been placing large items out for pickup by Colorado Waste Connections on garbage and recycling days. However, Colorado Waste Connections has informed us that they will no longer pick up any large items without scheduling for a special pickup (fee applies). This includes, but is not limited to, couches, dressers, desks, BBQ equipment, chairs, tables, mattresses, bed frames, bookcases, small appliances, kitchenware, and yard waste, including twigs and tree branch bundles. These items must be placed in the trash can, or you will need to call to set up a special pickup. Alternatively, you can take twigs and branches to a county tree collection facility.

It is the responsibility of each community member to ensure our community area is kept clean and free of large items that may sit in the same spot for days on trash day. Please help us keep our community clean and presentable.

Just a gentle reminder that if you need non-emergency help
with fencing, front yard, pod lights, pod trees, please DO NOT CALL
but DO FILE A WORK ORDER.

Until March 2024, if you need help go the Westwind and include a photo so that we can see what it is to be done.
This will help us have a list of items that need repair or attention vs having your request get lost in an email feed.

The Villages HOA Board is calling for neighborhood residents to become POD REPs
(cul-de-sac) representatives.

Our thinking was that since we now have monthly board meetings for the community, it
might be nice if each pod or cul-de-sac had a representative that could come to the meetings and
then share the information with their neighbors.

Also pod reps could alternate so that each month it could be a different rep that comes to the
meeting. This way we could get more information out to those that could not make the meetings.

No special requirements are needed other than the ability to come to the meetings and then share the
info with your neighbors.

If you are interested in learning more please reach out to one of the board members. Or simply show
up at the next board meeting in May.

Just a reminder board meetings are each month - held on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 pm
(though we end earlier than that).  All meetings are held at the Westridge Recreation Center.

Recently, we are hearing from homeowners of costly repairs due to damage caused to their homes because of the growing squirrel and rat population.  The population is growing in the Villages due to the lack of predators and people setting out feeders and leaving trash out.

Yes, squirrels may look cute at first glance and their antics can be funny. However, they are rodents—close cousins to mice and rats—and have sharp teeth and claws. They can also carry parasites and fleas.
Squirrels:
1)    eat the roots of roses and perennials
2)    dig dozens of holes in lawns and gardens in the fall to bury food, and dig again in the spring to retrieve their stashes, damaging grass, flower, and vegetable beds
3)    strip the bark off aspen, willow, and ash trees
4)    sharpen their teeth on deck railings and other exterior wood surfaces, necessitating expensive repairs and repainting
5)    eat wiring, sometimes corn-based—and can damage your holiday lighting. (They can also get inside attics or in engines of vehicles, damaging wires and insulation and leaving urine and feces behind.)

When extra food causes squirrel overpopulation, neighbors may be forced to hire pest control companies to remove squirrels. The cost runs about $100 per animal because the firms must make multiple trips to a residence to set and bait, check, and remove traps and animals. This does NO favor to the animals.

Please let wildlife be wild! Be a good neighbor so your fellow homeowners can stop experiencing damage to their properties. Please do not feed the squirrels.

They will enter your roof through vents!

DO NOT FEED PEANUTS!
